Hello, everyone!

I am absolutely stunned at the response my “Awkward Wednesday of SekSan lovelies” got on social media. Thank you for sharing and if you want to send in your entry, you can. I promise to keep you anonymous.

Here is my first entry sent in by a beautiful sister, her name is Yusra and she is so excited to share her Awkward Wednesday with you guys.

Sit somewhere that can contain your chill and read this ASAP.

Awkward Wednesday by Yusra

So the truth is we’ve all experienced a moment of awkwardness. Going for a hug and getting a shake, responding to a wave that was meant for the person behind, getting offensive compliments you don’t know how to respond to smiling so hard to cover the discomfort you feel but are we the cause of our awkward moments sometimes?

A Little Bit of Awkwardness

I saw a friend once while I was walking down the street in hot Lagos sun to buy some books. I screamed her name, super excited that I ran into one of my friends from way back in secondary school. She was walking alongside a guy looking dapper in his tight fitting jeans and blazers on a shirt. She looked just as good wearing a knee length floral gown on 5″strappy heels. The guy looked at me, hmm, the whole street was looking at me, my super loud attention seeking scream. She looked at me confused, but the sun must have melted my brain because I still went in for a hug. I felt dazed when she pushed me away and started ranting on how she didn’t know me and I was probably just a thief trying to use a hug as a distraction.

Choi, I almost died that day. They left me confused as I stood on a spot and watched them get into a jeep I didn’t even know the name of.

“Aunty, shift from the road before car jam you*, was what brought me back to reality. My wallet had dropped at some point during the encounter. As I bent to pick it up, realization dawned on me that the girl that used to beg me for a spoon of milk in the boarding school had pretended not to know me because I had on dunlop slippers, my gown was rumpled and soaked with sweat like someone had poured water on me.

As I reached up to touch my hair, I remembered how messy it was. I walked back home feeling embarrassed. “Madam, what happened*, my housekeeper asked. She was not educated but she was intelligent so I often shared my thoughts with her. I narrated what had happened. She only looked at me and shook her head.

“But madam I have told you, don’t go outside dressed like a crazy person just because you are a writer” I looked at her and smiled finally seeing the truth in her words.

Thank you.

Seriously, it’s one of those things. I just hope it’s not too late for Yusra’s friend to realize the big mistake she has made. Dear Yusra’s, kindly forgive her once she comes back to her senses. I can imagine how bad you must have felt at that moment…

Honestly I think the lady in view would have grown much wiser now. Even though maturity still doesn’t come with age …

I enjoyed this, it is indeed an awkward moment. Sometimes people make such mistakes thinking they are proving levels.
