Official Hijabi of the Month July - Sekinat Sanni

Who is Sekinat Sanni?

Permit me to say that I am a die-hard, persistent and possess an insatiable want for success. A Marketing Consultant, Personal Development Coach, Lifestyle and Fashion Blogger.

Extremely passionate about empowering, influencing and coaching individuals on how they can embrace self-development and growth in all part of the world.

I studied International Finance for my B.Sc. Degree at Eastern Mediterranean University, North Cyprus, Turkey. The experience was really challenging and interesting at the same time due to the fact that I left Nigeria at a very early age without my parents.

Despite the freedom of being far away from home, I was left with making the choice of incorporating the lessons my parents taught me into grooming myself to becoming more disciplined, hardworking and responsible.

However, my interest in marketing became really intense after completing my internship at a Bank in Turkey then. The whole journey of interacting with the customers, gaining more insights about their needs, solving their problems and paying close attention to the whole customer experience crowned my decision.

Thus, contributed to my decision to further gain advanced knowledge in Marketing Management at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom.

I absolutely love my family especially with the fact that we are all females (five to be precise). There wasn’t any issue of searching for friends around to ask for their opinion on issues. We were all very close with one another.

I can’t stress my passion for self-love and body positivity enough. Regardless of what the past entailed or the challenges occurring in the present, guard your strengths and energy.

When did you start wearing hijab? Tell us a little about your journey.

Sekinat Sanni started wearing hijab from a tender age. My mother always dressed us in Hijab. My parents are generally careful about choosing appropriate clothing, even for my siblings.  Even before the age of puberty, we girls become accustomed to these values of modesty.

Over the years, I grew to understand the power it holds in reflecting who I am, my values and principles. Simply, it has become part of ME – who I am.

I really don’t think I have ever felt burdened or limited with it. As such, there is no reason why I should be influenced by what the society has deemed to be accepted or not.

My hijab is my power and in it lies my strength. Hence, the intense understanding that my inner abilities have nothing to do with my outer appearance. The United Kingdom and Cyprus created enough ambience for me to LOVE my Hijab.

Style it and be yourself!

If you could give one piece of advice to someone struggling with their personal identity, what would it be? Start by eradicating the habit of depending on people for reassurance on your worthiness. The validation of who you are shouldn’t be expected from others around you. Cultivate the habit of self-love and enjoy every bit of your choice. The choice that will reveal your inner conception and self. Understand that the power to be limitless can only evolve from within you. Pay close attention to the things you hold important. Then, redirect your own perception of personal identity and success. Keep your identity simple, modest, focused and full of happiness. Remember that the responsibilities of who you are and how best you want people to know you depends on YOU!

How do you balance being a fashion blogger, marketing consultant, and a personal development coach and still manage to be awesome at it?

The burning desire within me that not only inspires me but motivates others around me. As such, finding and identifying my personal drive makes it all easier.

With the right vision, mission and set goals, I ensure appropriate priority settings for my activities.

Time management, discipline, and focus are the key factors for my success. Really, I strive every day to embrace this journey to a balanced and fulfilling living through compassion, love, respect, dedication, and commitment.

To crown it, the grace of Allah is on me. Alhamdulillahi.
